"Speaking in Tongues" is a common phenomenon in most Pentecostal churches today. Is this the same as Biblical speaking in tongues? And if not, what is it then?
Why do people from other religions and cults also speak in tongues? Do all "saved" people have to speak in tongues? These and more such questions are dealt with in this podcast.

We also have to keep in mind what the purpose of miraculous gifts were. They were signs to testify to the legitimacy of the death and resurection of Jesus to establish the Christian faith. For this reason it seems that these gifts faded away with the finalisation of the canon of Scripture. See 1 Corinthians 13:8-10.

Prophecy is generally defined as a ”prediction of the future” or ”revealing Gods will”. Scripture fulfills both those jobs today. See 2 Pet. 1:3.

Hey Crystal. Thank you for engaging about this. It is a difficult subject and quite sensitive. The Holy Spirit can do what He wants and how and where. So we cannot limit Him or try to confine Him. But the Holy Spirit also inspired the Scriptures. So we have to look carefully at the Scriptures and it is pretty clear in the Scriptures that modern speaking in tongues is not the same thing as Biblical speaking in tongues. With regard to prophecy...it depends on how you define it.

Would you say that the gift of prophesy is relevant today? If yes, then my question is why would that exclude the gift of tongues? Surely if one gift is relevant than the other should also be.

Perhaps the experiences were isolated. Perhaps not contradictory at all. I do believe that many pentecostal churches are corupt and cults. However Holy spirit moves in humilty.
